September 20, 2010 Newsletter

September 20, 2010

Dear Friends,

I hope you are enjoying this cooler and less humid weather. It is certainly making me excited for the fall!

While there is a lot to look forward to in the coming months, I would like to dedicate this newsletter to NORD reform.

As many of you know, I moved here from the Midwest ten years ago with my family. We immediately involved our sons in the City’s recreation department but were shocked to see the inequity from playground to playground. Some facilities were state-of-the-art while others were falling apart. It is time to level the playing field and give ALL New Orleans communities adequate recreation facilities and programming.

The election to reform NORD will take place on October 2nd. I encourage you all to get to the polls and vote YES for recreation reform, yes for our kids, yes for our seniors. It is important to remember that it is not just our youth that should benefit from the City’s recreation department; seniors, the pillars of our society, should also reap the benefits of a healthy recreation system.

In order to do this, we need two systematic changes: more funding and stable governance. To learn more about how the proposed reform will achieve these goals, please visit the NORD CAP website: www.nordcap.org

In the last week, we have received the endorsements of City Business and Bureau of Governmental Research. We are meeting with other media outlets this week for further endorsements.

Keep in mind that from Saturday, September 18th through Saturday, September 25th, all registered New Orleans voters can vote early. Early voting will take place at the following locations: City Hall at 1300 Perdido St.; the Algiers Courthouse at 225 Morgan St.; or, the voting machine warehouse at 8870 Chef Menteur Hwy.  All locations are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Please get to the polls. Please vote YES. YES for our youth. YES for our seniors. YES for our future.

Your City Council President,

Arnie Fielkow
