COUNCILMAN FIELKOW DELIVERS $25,000 CHECK TO
9th WARD FIELD OF DREAMS

WHO: Councilman Arnie Fielkow

Brian Bordainick, 9th Ward Field of Dreams

Isaac Johnson, RSD Deputy Director/Clubs & Athletics

Carver students and members of the 9th Ward community

WHAT: Councilman Arnie Fielkow will present a $25,000 check to the “9th
Ward Field of Dreams” project

WHEN: Thursday, September 30, 1:15pm

WHERE: Steps of City Hall, 1300 Perdido St.

WHY: Councilman Arnie Fielkow, a strong proponent of the value of organized sports and after-school sports programs, is donating $25,000 to the 9th Ward Field of Dreams project to contribute to their goal of raising $1.85 million for a state-of-the art athletic facility on the 9th Ward campus of G.W. Carver High School for the Arts in New Orleans. The 9th Ward Field of Dreams will house a football field, Olympic-sized running track, stadium seating and lighting system. Organized community sports activities are a proven deterrent to school drop out rates, crime and drug-use. Councilman Fielkow, understanding the value of sports and recreation to youth development, has dedicated much of his time in office to improving sports and recreational opportunities for all New Orleans youth. The 9WFOD will serve as the springboard for redevelopment of this hurricane-devastated and economically-challenged community.

The 9WFOD project has already raised over $1 million toward its goal. The multi-purpose facility will be open to the entire community, free of charge. This community space will be the first of its kind in the 9th Ward, and will serve as a model for community-centered athletic facilities across the country.
