100 Youth to Attend Hornets vs. Suns courtesy of Councilmember Fielkow
March 15, 2011 – New Orleans, LA – Aligning his support for New Orleans youth with his support for the New Orleans Hornets, City Council President Arnie Fielkow is making it possible for 100 elementary students to attend tomorrow’s game against the Phoenix Suns. The students are from Edgar P. Harney Elementary School located in Central City.
Showing his support and urging others to do the same, Councilmember Fielkow announced in mid-December 2010 his intention to purchase 100 tickets for Edgar P. Harney students for the January 20 game against the Memphis Grizzlies. However, due to the outpouring of fan support, there were not enough seats available for the students. Tickets for the March 16 game were purchased instead.
Further extending his support for the local NBA team, Fielkow and all City Councilmembers passed a resolution on December 16 urging citizens and businesses of New Orleans and the entire Gulf South region to show their support by buying tickets, merchandise and sponsorships.
“Sports can be significant to the development of our youth. Whether they are playing or watching a game, youth are constantly learning rules, teamwork and overall life skills. These 100 students will be a loud cheering section during the game against the Suns, and they will hopefully be lifelong fans of the Hornets,” said Fielkow. “Furthermore, it is important for our economy and city spirit that we continue to show unwavering support of our local NBA team, even though the attendance benchmark was met,” he added.
